Size Guide

Every shirt in the Classic Match Shirts archive is measured individually. Retro football shirts from the 1980s and 1990s were cut differently from modern sportswear — many run smaller than today’s equivalent sizes. Always check the measurements below before ordering.

How we measure

All measurements are taken flat across the garment and given in centimetres. Double the chest figure to get the full circumference.

Label size Chest (cm) Length (cm) Shoulder (cm)
S 48–50 68–70 42–44
M 51–54 71–73 45–47
L 55–58 74–76 48–50
XL 59–62 77–79 51–53
XXL 63–66 80–82 54–56

A note on vintage sizing

Shirts from the 1980s and early 1990s were produced before modern athletic sizing became standard. A shirt labelled “L” from 1988 will often measure closer to a modern “M” or even “S”. If the product page lists specific measurements for that shirt, always use those over the general guide above.

Fit notes by era

1980s shirts

Typically short in body length and narrow across the chest. The fabric is often heavier cotton or a cotton-polyester blend. Size up by one if you prefer a relaxed fit.

Early 1990s shirts

Cuts remain close to 1980s proportions. Check the individual product measurements where listed.

Mid to late 1990s shirts

The baggier silhouette of that era begins to appear. Sizing is more generous but still not modern. Many shirts from this period are the most sought-after in the archive.

2000s shirts

Generally longer in body and slightly wider. Polyester construction. Sizing tends to run closer to modern expectations, though still not identical.
